Independence day (and the memories related to it) has a very special place in my heart.
Everytime this day rolls by, I am overwhelmed by the nostalgic memories of Independence day celebrations back in my school days- melodious memories chanting national anthem and patriotic songs;proud memories recalling legends and stories of patriots and martyrs; fun memories resonating with laughter and shouts of joy; and sweet, sweet memories of the sugary treats which are so popular during festivals and celebratory events.
What wouldn’t I give to go back in time and relive those precious moments again!
The preparation for the big day would begin one day prior to the day. We would clean and press our faded uniforms, polish our shoes and wait excitedly for the next day.
The students and teachers would assemble in the playground and the principal hoisted the flag. This would be followed by the national anthem which everyone would sing with gusto.
Then came the plays, skits, speeches and patriotic songs and then in the end( the most awaited of all!)- the distribution of sweets!
Here’s a traditional indian dessert in the shades of the tricolor!
Happy Independence Day๐
